Cooking for the Community
ADVISOR: Mr. Cantrell
DESCRIPTION:
"Food brings people together on many different levels. It's nourishment for the soul and body; it's truly love." Giada DeLaurentiis.
Cooking for the Community is an after-school club designed to offer time and space to make food to support the Barclay Farmers' Market and families in the Central Bucks School District community.
To learn more about the Barclay Farmers Market, read below:
The mission of the Barclay Farmers Market is to address food insecurity for children in our district. To confront this problem, we began a small farmers market in March 2019. Through the generosity of local organizations, including Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC), Philabundance, Grocers Against Hunger, and Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, we distributed thousands of pounds of fresh produce to families and children at our markets in our first year.
A week after the start of the COVID-19 crisis, we were able to quickly expand our operation, and moved from a once a month market to twice a month. We are committed to providing healthy food to families so that all children have the proper nutrition to learn, but we also do this work because we believe that, at some point in time, we all might need a little extra support. On the second and fourth Thursday of each month, we offer Central Bucks School district food to address food insecurity. We are so grateful to the amazing CBSD students and staff for your generosity and support as we continue our mission.
